The mother of a man with psychiatric problems who was pinned face down to the pavement by three police officers shortly before he died told an inquest today that when she viewed her son’s body his face was covered with injuries.
The inquest into the death of Faisal Al-Ani, 43, from Southend in Essex, was shown a montage of CCTV footage including the moment he was wrestled to the ground by police officers.
Essex police had been responding to a call after Mr Al-Ani was seen acting in an agitated way in the town centre around 9pm on 31 July 2005. The three officers, one of whom was an inspector, had gone to the assistance of three community support officers who saw Al-Ani, a father of six with a history of psychiatric problems, gesturing wildly and acting aggressively towards nearby teenagers.
Senator also wants to see recent study confirming explosives in the debris of the World Trade Center as Fox News propagandizes the report.

Five Muslim community workers have accused MI5 of waging a campaign of blackmail and harassment in an attempt to recruit them as informants.
The men claim they were given a choice of working for the Security Service or face detention and harassment in the UK and overseas.
They have made official complaints to the police, to the body which oversees the work of the Security Service and to their local MP Frank Dobson. Now they have decided to speak publicly about their experiences in the hope that publicity will stop similar tactics being used in the future.

Children as young as seven are being recruited by councils to act as ‘citizen snoopers’, the Daily Mail can reveal.
The ‘environment volunteers’ will report on litter louts, noisy neighbours – and even families putting their rubbish out on the wrong day.
There are currently almost 9,000 people signed up to the schemes. More are likely to be recruited in the coming months.
Controversially, some councils are running ‘junior’ schemes which are recruiting children.
After basic training, volunteers are expected to be the ‘eyes and the ears’ of the town hall.
They are given information packs about how to collect evidence, including tips about writing down numberplates, which could later be used in criminal prosecutions.
Luton Borough Council’s Street Seen scheme encourages its 650 volunteers to report ‘environmental concerns’. It is also recruiting ‘Junior Street Champions’, aged between seven and 11.
Primary schools could also be involved within two years.

President Obama’s repudiation of his promise to comply with a court order and release Pentagon torture photos marks a qualitative deepening of the cover-up of the crimes carried out under Bush as well as their continuation under the new administration in only slightly altered form.
The president’s decision amounts to the deliberate suppression of evidence that the US military-intelligence apparatus, at the direction of the White House, carried out systemic torture.
The about-face on the torture photos is of a piece with a series of actions taken by the administration in recent months. These include the Obama Justice Department’s attempt to suppress lawsuits challenging extraordinary rendition, torture and illegal domestic spying, all hallmarks of the police-state apparatus erected under Bush in the name of a war on terrorism.
